Marcus Vanzant is a husband, father to two boys, and a 2nd generation real estate broker who waited until 35 years of age to finally jump into the real estate business, 10 years after his father retired and tried to give him his established brokerage. (smart move, right?) Having worked in a couple of corporate jobs, which included mortgage lending (watching Washington Mutual implode from the inside as an AE), he had no desire to work for another large corporation again, so in 2007, Marcus found a small independent brokerage and started his journey. Knowing he would always own his own company, Marcus obtained his broker’s license as soon as he could and founded Marcus & Company Realty in Bradenton, FL in September of 2009.
Marcus & Company was built in the financial collapse, and because of Marcus’s mortgage experience, he quickly built his career by doing short sales. One of the things short sales taught Marcus was that he could not accomplish his goals on his own, so almost immediately, Marcus & Company Realty became a team-based brokerage.
With the typical rainmaker image team structure in place, MCR rose to become the #1 team in the market, focusing on units and helping people. In 2019, after experiencing a ton of mistakes and spending more money than anyone ever should on shiny objects to improve his business, Marcus had a calling to do more and help more agents succeed (and help them avoid some of the same mistakes he made), but knew he couldn’t accomplish that with his typical team of 4 to 5 agents while still continuing to produce. In 2020, during the COVID crisis, Marcus stopped his personal production and started building the concept of a “Teamerage”.
As of 2024 Marcus & Company Realty has been recognized as one of the best real estate groups in Florida. MCR has been ranked the #1 real estate team on the West Coast of Florida and #10 in the state by RealTrends. MCR has also been recognized as an Inc. 5000 fastest growing company in America over the past 3 years, having received the rank of #2326 for all companies and #49 for real estate companies, nationally.
What Marcus is most proud of is that his group of agents now ranks #1 in the Bradenton/Sarasota market for the number of units sold and volume per average agent. Agents with MCR over 12 months average 18 units per year and are climbing. Marcus is steadfast in his belief of “Building a better brokerage, not a bigger brokerage”, and with this value firmly in place, Marcus knows that the success of Marcus & Company will be determined by the excellence of the individual agent.
Moving forward, Marcus’ goals include becoming one of the top-selling brokerages in his market, but more importantly, doing this with the fewest number of agents possible, excellence of size.
Having sold over $673 million and over 2,215 sales, Marcus knows this is only the beginning of where this amazing group of talented agents will grow.
Bigger is easy, Better, not so much!
